The all-new 2021 Ford Galaxy is getting further refreshments. Ford clearly has a plan for its minivan, but definitely outside the United States. Whatsoever, Galaxy will continue with sales, but in Europe only. This MPV is based on the Ford Mondeo model. It looks very upscale, and it provides great comfort. The new-gen model is speculated for 2021, but that is unlikely to happen.
For 2020, Ford Europe provided mid-cycle refreshments to its large MPV. That includes a new front grille and bumpers. Moreover, styling is closer to models such as Kuga, Focus and Fiesta. On top of that, Vignale version is available. Ford also upgraded the mechanics. Thanks to that, new 2021 Galaxy will get a couple of exterior upgrades and interior improvements.
2021 Galaxy Exterior Facelift
The 2020 model arrived with a new front grille and new bumpers. Now, the 2021 Ford Galaxy will get further upgrades. That includes reshaped headlights that are also larger than before. Furthermore, this MPV comes with new taillights and slightly different tailgate. Blue Oval will improve the aerodynamics so the new Galaxy will look sportier than its predecessor.
This model continues to ride on its CD4 architecture. The same platform underpins the famous Mondeo sedan. Design-wise, Galaxy is closer to the Ford Focus model than Mondeo. For that reason, Galaxy borrows a couple of styling cues and exterior features from the smaller Focus model. The platform remains, so that means there will be no dimensional changes in 2021.
Interior Will Introduce More Significant Changes
As for the interior, the approaching 2021 Ford Galaxy will get numerous updates. Last year’s model didn’t get such drastic changes. This could happen in 2021. For a start, Galaxy will gain more upright cabin thanks to the new upholstery. Furthermore, this MPV will host fewer buttons. That will make room for a larger display.
Logically, most of the controls will be operated via a new touchscreen. This will also make the cabin more practical. We know some fans really love traditional buttons, but we are not in 2002. The base model comes with long list of standard amenities. Blue Oval manufacturer could improve that next year.
Three Powertrain Choices
As for the powertrain options, Galaxy will have a couple of them. Just like the S-Max model, the 2021 Ford Galaxy comes with two gasoline engines. On top of that, a single diesel engine is available. For a start, a 1.5-liter EcoBoost that generates 160 hp is standard powertrain option. Optionally, a larger 2.0-liter is available, and it produces 240 horsepower.
Both units are using the same Powershift automatic transmission. A 2.0-liter TDCi Duratorq diesel is available in two different outputs. The first output is rated at 150 horses, and the second one delivers 180 horses. Moreover, diesel comes with better fuel efficiency, and it will use a 6-speed manual gearbox.
2021 Ford Galaxy Release Date and Price
The future of the Galaxy MPV is still uncertain. However, the 2021 Ford Galaxy is coming to the markets in Europe later next year. No one actually knows what will happen in years to come. The price of the all-new model will once again start slightly below $40,000.
