It looks like the popular MPV is finally about to come completely redesigned, as 2020 VW Sharan. Since 1995, this model is one of the most popular large minivans around. So far, we have seen only two generations. The original model was characterized by a pretty long production cycle, which lasted for full 15 years. However, it looks like the company wants to speed up the process for a bit in the current generation, so a redesign could come after nine years. Latest reports suggest a complete redesign for the next year when the 2020 VW Sharan should come with lots of novelties, including a completely new styling, interior design and lots of new design solutions. Of course, this redesign is about to bring lots of novelties. According to our reliable insiders, the main reason for a little bit earlier redesign is because the company wants to synchronize the whole lineup of vehicles with the new platform. To remind you, the current Sharan rides on the old platform that underprints Passat B6 and B7 models. Meanwhile, the eight generation of the famous mid-size sedan came out, riding on a new architecture. Of course, we are talking about the new MQB platform. So, the new 2020 VW Sharan should benefit in many ways. One of the most important is weight reductions, thanks to the use of new, lightweight materials. Other than that, the new model should get few more inches in a wheelbase and feature slightly bigger overall proportions. The new platform will most likely include a couple of new engines as well.

Besides numerous technical novelties, we expect to see big refreshment in terms of style. The current model is present for about eight years, and it definitely shows that. When it comes to the powertrain, we are about to see familiar engines in the offer. However, each unit will come in a new version, with more power and better overall efficiency. The base model should come with a  familiar 1.4-liter gasoline engine, which will probably remain the same and feature around 150 horsepower. On the other side, a 2.0-liter unit will get a nice power boost and feature around 220 horses, instead of the current 197.

When it comes to diesel units, a 1.6-liter TDI could be a novelty. This one delivers around 120 hp. On the other side, a bigger 2.0-liter TDI should come in a new version, in variants with 150 and 190 horsepower.

The all-new 2020 VW Sharan should come sometime in the next year. We don’t expect bigger changes in price, so base models should go around 30/35.000 dollars, depending on the market.
