A year ago, the Meriva has been discontinued. Meanwhile, the German carmaker became a part of PSA Group and latest reports suggest that Opel is in a big process of renewing its lineup. At the moment, most of the vehicles in the lineup are still in a close relationship with GM models, primarily Buick. Of course, this will change in the future and it’s already changing. One of the first models to come based on Peugeot and Citroen vehicles is a crossover called Grandland X. In the near future, we should see 2020 Opel Meriva, based on the same platform and of a similar size. This is just a speculation at the moment and we will have to wait for some more time to hear something from the officials.
2020 Opel Meriva Redesign
After a short hiatus, the popular MPV will come back, this time as 2020 Opel Meriva. Those are latest reports about the model that has been produced for almost 15 years, between 2003 and 2017. For all those years, we have seen two generations of it and it looks like the third one is on its way. At the moment, we can only speculate about it. Most likely, the new 2020 Opel Meriva will continue in a familiar way when it comes to base design characteristics. It should come as a compact MPV, which indicates a use of the PSA’s new EMP2 platform, which also underprints the new Grandland X crossover. These two models should have a lot of things in common.
2020 Opel Meriva Styling and Interior Design
As we already mentioned, the 2020 Opel Meriva should have a lot of things in common with the Grandland. This probably means pretty much the same front end, which still sticks to the essentials of the design language that was active in the last several years under General Motors. Of course, expect a bit of an upgrade, in terms of new details that would distinguish the new model for a bit and make it more unique. Just like most MPVs, this one will also come with the interior design as its strongest points.
In practice, this would mean a lot of hi-quality materials and plenty of standard equipment. In terms of the style, the dashboard should be pretty much the same as in the Grandaland X. This would mean a rather simple approach, with relatively bland dash styling, but full of quality materials. Of course, the center stack would dominate with its large touchscreen, which would come in a combination with lots of analog buttons and controls, which will keep the MPV more reliable. Count on a long list of standard equipment, with latest tech features in terms of safety, driver aids, entertainment etc.
2020 Opel Meriva Engines
We don’t expect surprises in this aspect. The 2020 Opel Meriva should come with a wide palette of PSA’s engines in the offer. Considering that Europe is the primary market, we will see both gasoline and diesel units in the offer.
Base version should come with a small 1.2-liter three-cylinder unit, which is good for about 120 horsepower.
A familiar 1.6-liter gasoline engine is good for about 165 horses and should find its place under the hood as well.
When it comes to diesel units, the offer should start with a 1.6-liter HDI, which delivers around 120 hp. A bigger 2.0-liter HDI comes in two output variants, with either 150 or 180 horsepower.
2020 Opel Meriva Release Date and Price
Despite we are still waiting for the official confirmation, the 2020 Opel Meriva could come already in the next year. When it comes to the price, base models will probably go somewhere between 25.000 and 30.000 dollars.
