2020 Fiat 500L Spes, Features, Discontinuation

If we can rely on the latest reports, the 2020 Fiat 500L might be the final version of this infamous minivan/wagon. Introduced in 2012, the 500L has never managed to establish its position on the market. Simply, the balance between price and value isn’t good enough to attract a wider range of buyers. Therefore, it is expected that this model will be replaced with a completely new, entry-level crossover.

So, this one won’t be in production for too long. We expect discontinuation by the end of next year. This also means that the 2020 Fiat 500L shouldn’t feature too many changes. We count on a familiar design, as well as on a familiar list of standard equipment, though some minor tweaks are possible.

2020 Fiat 500L Redesign

In terms of base design characteristics, the 2020 Fiat 500L definitely won’t change. The current generation has been around since 2012, but aesthetics are still pretty good, even for today’s standards. This aspect of the car definitely isn’t a weak point but on the other side, we can’t say the same for driveability. When it comes to handling and driving dynamics, the 500L is disappointing. While some other models that ride on a Small Wide platform are more than decent in this aspect, the 500L’s body style is designed in such a way that aerodynamics are really pathetic. Not only that you won’t enjoy driving this mini MPV, but you won’t save any money on fuel either, considering that mpg ratings are way below average.

Since we are getting close to the end of the production cycle, the 2020 Fiat 500L won’t come with notable changes. Even things like new color options don’t seem very likely in this case.

Interior

The interior of this small wagon is a mixed bag. On one side, it is pretty spacious and delivers a decent amount of comfort. Also, versions with a panoramic sunroof bring tons of light, which ensures a pleasant feeling inside the cabin. Cargo area is probably the strongest point of this model. You can count on 22.4 cubic feet behind the rear seats and 68 cubic feet of overall cargo space, which seems pretty impressive, considering the model’s size. Also, another great thing about this car is impressive visibility in all directions.

Fiat 500L Interior

On the other side, the overall interior quality is disappointing. Most of the cabin is made of super-cheap plastics, something that you wouldn’t expect from a vehicle in this price range. Also, the dashboard doesn’t look particularly attractive.

Features

When it comes to standard equipment, this model comes standard with a 7-inch touchscreen and a super-intuitive Uconnect infotainment system. Smartphone goodies like Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are also standard features. The list of safety features is extremely short and misses all the essentials of today’s automotive industry. A rearview camera is standard, while parking sensors are available. That all you can get from the 500L in terms of safety.

2020 Fiat 500L Engine

The 2020 Fiat 500L will continue with only one engine in the offer. It is a 1.4-liter turbo-four, which comes in pair with a 6-speed automatic transmission. Despite the turbocharger, driving dynamics aren’t impressive at all, especially when the car is fully loaded. Still, seems more than decent of a daily ride. As we already mentioned, fuel economy is pretty bad, as you can count on just 22 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the highway. These are some of the lowest ratings in the class.

2020 Fiat 500L Release Date and Price

We expect to see 2020 Fiat 500L sometime late in the year, considering that there aren’t bigger changes to come. The price should also remain pretty much the same as for the current model, which goes in a range between 22.000 and 25.000 dollars, roughly.
