2019 Peugeot 3008 Review, GT line, Hybrid

The growing popularity of the SUV models, and at the same time reduced interest in minivans led many carmakers to shift from falling class to raising. Renault did it with its Espace, while the most radical turn was made by Peugeot, launching the 3008. Now, it is delivering a new version with numerous updates.  The 2019 Peugeot 3008 is somehow based on the Quartz concept from 2014. But the production model is far closer to the MPV form, with 2 inches (50 mm) larger ground clearance.

The 2019 Peugeot 3008 is using a modular EMP2 platform. Many other PSA vehicles (Peugeot Citroen) are using this architecture as well. It saves up to 100 kilograms (220 lbs). When it comes to dimensions, the new 3008 lands in a compact crossover SUV class. There, main rivals are Hyundai Tucson, Nissan Qashqai, KIA Sportage.

2019 Peugeot 3008 Redesign

The redesign of 2019 Peugeot 3008 needs to rejuvenate the vehicle. However, we can find similarities with other models by the same carmaker. The front grille will be new and the fog lamps are getting a frame for the 2019 season model. The rear light groups are dimmed, so the three-dimensional effect and accent of LED lighting are even more obvious.

The manufacturer promises that the price of restyling “3008” will remain unpredictable and in spite of a significantly richer equipment. Let’s just mention that the Bluetooth connection for smartphones, or MP3 player as part of the basic equipment. Special attention is paid to practicality. The trunk opens by lifting the upper part and lowering the threshold, giving a completely flat loading surface without a characteristic step. The lower part of the luggage compartment when folded down can be loaded with 200 kilograms of cargo, which enables the loading of the cramped luggage. The rear bench stamps with one stroke with the help of a switch in the boot. The driver can make the same action in a classic way from the cabin.

Interior

Inside the cabin, the new 2019 Peugeot 3008 definitely plays on the futurism. The latest generation of Peugeot i-Cockpit is implemented. Instead of the classic instrumentation, there is a large multifunctional 12-inch display. Besides that, in the control panel, we have another 8-inch infotainment screen.

As always, the French carmaker is delivering extremely comfortable cabin and seats. Plus, now we have more popular infotainment features that should lure the younger population. Of course, this will raise the price of the 2019 Peugeot 3008. Furthermore, the new hybrid drivetrain needs special equipment and monitoring, so the interior of this version will be slightly different than for the standard Peugeot 3008 for 2019.

2019 Peugeot 3008 Specs

The base model gets power from a 1.6-l petrol engine. Total output is 120 horsepower. For economical driving, the HDi unit with the same displacement releases 115 horsepower and average 125 grams of carbon dioxide per kilometer.

2019 Peugeot 3008 Hybrid AWD

The new 2019 Peugeot 3008 is finally adding an AWD for the hybrid drivetrain. The Hybrid4 engine debuted at the Paris Motor Show. This system combines a PureTech petrol engine of 1.6 liters, that develops 197 horsepower, and two electric motors, each producing 108 horsepower (80 kW). Accordingly, the total output is 296 horsepower. One of the electric motors is mounted on the front axle and is connected to the eight-speed EAT8 automatic transmission.

The second electric motor is mounted on the rear wheels and starts when the front wheels lose the momentum. Also, the driver can activate the AWD manually. In this case, power goes equally to all wheels.

Another part of the 2019 Peugeot 3008 Hybrid4 system is also a 13.2-kilowatt-hour battery that can provide the power for 30 miles (50 km) for a single charge. The emission is very low for a four-wheel drive – only 49 grams per kilometer. The benefit of all-wheel drive is that this model accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 6.5 seconds, making the 3008 Hybrid4 the fastest 2019 Peugeot 3008 model.

This powertrain is available exclusively on the most expensive GT variant of the 3008 model. It uses  Alcantara interior trim and the gray oak details. There are also numerous driver aid systems from other new vehicles by French carmaker.

2019 Peugeot 3008 Price

The 2019 Peugeot 3008 is one of the popular SUVs outside the US. However, the company still has no intention to bring it overseas. In Europe, especially in its homeland and in the UK, it records best-selling numbers. Also, its popularity is rising in Australia. The new Peugeot 3008 2019 will cost from 25,000 euro (22,000 pounds; 40,000 AUD; 29,000 USD). However, that is the entry-level trim. Top of the class models will be GT versions.
